Tool joints Tool joints are made of forged AISI 4137H steel to enhance the hardeneability. This increased hardeneability promotes a metallurgical microstructure with more uniform mechanical properties. Tool joint properties meet or exceed API requirements. |

Tool Joint Tong Space:
Length of the tong space is important for 2 reasons: It determines the potential contact area for the tong dies or handling equipment, and the length available at the tool joint to catch the pipe in case of fishing. An average re-cut on API connections and DPAL double shoulder implies approximately a loss of ¼” on the tong space. |
